How can you tell if an Online Degree University is Genuine?
Convenience, flexibility, and time all affect your decision to return to college. Who wants to spend ten years driving back and forth to a college campus, working away at a degree one course at a time? Most people decide to return to college and get a degree to earn more money, or advance in their profession, not to become professional students.
All of these factors make distance learning degree programs very attractive. Unfortunately, however, unscrupulous distance learning degree programs offer fake degrees from diploma mills. How can you tell whether the degree is real or not? The best way to do this is to find out whether the college is regionally accredited.
Most reputable distance learning online programs display their accreditation credentials prominently on their websites. If an institution advertises accreditation, check with the database maintained by the United States Department of Education at http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/ . If your institution isn’t listed here, it probably isn’t accredited.
If you do find a college that claims to be accredited but is not, file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, or FTC. The FTC is actively working to educate employers and prospective students about the pitfalls of fake degree scams. To read more about this problem, visit their website: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/diplomamills.shtm .
All of the colleges and universities featured on this website proudly advertise their accreditation. The goal of this site is to offer information about genuine degrees from accredited universities, to help people choose the career path that is right for them. Be smart, do your homework, and choose distance schools that are accredited. Get a degree that advances, rather than destroys, your future career!

Distance Learning Online: Are the Degrees Genuine?
Some distance degree programs sound almost too good to be true. They advertise that you can get a degree in only eight to fourteen months through a college degree program. What they fail to tell you, however, is that they aren’t accredited.
How important is accreditation for online degree schools? If your degree isn’t from an accredited university, it is absolutely worthless. You won’t be able to take exams or get certification in the career field you choose. In fact, unless you are very fortunate, you may even get a degree in a career path that doesn’t even exist. For example, a few universities offer online business degrees in tax preparation.
What they don’t tell you is this isn’t really a college degree – it is a certificate program. Further, you may or may not receive enough information about the program to actually prepare taxes. Often, people who want to earn a degree online fall for these scams and find themselves out several thousand dollars and a lot of time and energy.
You cannot, no matter what some sites tell you, get a college degree online in ten days. You cannot get a degree based completely on life experience. And, if your degree isn’t from an accredited university, such as the ones listed on this site, it is worthless.
Finally, if you get a fake degree from online programs, and apply for a job based on that degree, understand that you are committing fraud. As the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) begins to crack down on these programs, often referred to as diploma mills, they are strongly advising companies to make sure applicants’ degrees and credentials are genuine. You, and your company, can be held liable for fraud if your degree isn’t real.
